Lorraine Brigdale – 'Bultjubul iyung', 2023

 "Bultjubul iyung is a set of 3 Coil Woven Vessels made from Sedge Grass core and coil woven with Natural Raffia.
I then gathered made 3 different shades of natural ochre paint to paint onto the Vessels
Coil weaving is a South Eastern Australian Aboriginal Traditional style of weaving and basket making.
Weaving the vessel is a time consuming process and when it is finished I carefully apply handmade ochre paint to the surface."

Lorraine Brigdale is a Yorta Yorta woman and multi media artist and designer and is based in Bendigo on Dja Dja Wurrung Country. 

Lorraine was commissioned for public artworks including the Creative Resilience Public Monument at Queen Victoria Womens Centre (commissioned by the Queen Victoria Women's Centre Trust together with the Victorian Government as part of the Victorian Women's Public Art program (VWPA).
Lorraine won the Koorie Art Show Creative Victoria Award for Excellence in any Media, 2022 and Koorie Art Show Viva Energy Australia 3D Award, 2020.

Her work is currently on exhibition at the NGV as part of Vessels 

Vessel Project

The Vessel Project is an exploration of the vessel en masse, as imagined by Melbourne’s most creative practitioners. The showcase continues the examination of modern amphorae in Jugs, and celebrates Craft's curatorial collaboration with the NGV for Vessels – now showing as part of Melbourne Now at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia.
