Beverly Meldrum — Kelp Necklace, 2020 - RECIPIENT - $1000 Encouragement Award

$1,500

RECIPIENT: $1,000 | Encouragement Award

Supported by The Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society (Yarra).

"This work draws on our connections between land and water. The chain represents the froth of the waves, the kelp and the ghostnet speak to those things washed along the shoreline. I harvest the kelp from the Mornington Peninsula, washing away the salt and anything else . Working with kelp is very special, I left the kelp guide how I am to work with it. I'm led by its form, the natural holes created over time. The scarring from where it's been eaten away, this is all part of honouring the material." - Beverly Meldrum
