Tahni Bouhadana — 'Seven Horse Heads' Sculptural Ceramic, 2026
'Seven Horse Heads' by Melbourne based artist Tahni Bouhadana is a contemplative sculpture centred on the physical presence, strength and majesty of the horse. The work is a reimagining of an earlier piece that explored the ways horses have been used as instruments of violence, control and dominance. While the original work was deeply personal and charged, this iteration distils those ideas into a quieter, more still form. Through the repetition of horse heads, the sculpture reflects on the tension between the horse’s innate power and its history of being harnessed in service of human power. The work holds the emotional weight of this past beneath a sense of stillness and reverence for the animal itself.

Tahni Bouhadana is a Melbourne based artist, sculptor and designer working across ceramics, resin and other sculptural materials. Her practice is grounded in a deep connection to craftsmanship and the possibilities of material dialogue, informed by a family lineage of makers in ceramics, carpentry, textiles, jewellery and cobbling. Through considered forms and tactile surfaces, Bouhadana explores ritual, intimacy and the unique aura of objects within the spaces they inhabit. Drawing from personal objects, memories and childhood imagination, her slow, intuitive process allows material, colour and form to guide the development of works that evoke familiarity, wonder, play and transformation.
