Studio Visit & Talking Creative Commissions with Thomas Lentini
For this special Melbourne Design Week 2024 program we will join local furniture design and maker, Thomas Lentini, for a studio visit and conversation. Inviting a small group of participants into Lentini’s Yarraville studio, the event will start off with a tour of the workshop and a short demonstration, showcasing Lentini's processes. Following the this, Craft will lead a discussion with Lentini unpacking the power of creative commissions and the importance of small-scale bespoke production within the design ecology.
Highlighting small-scale, end-to-end craft production, this event considers how we come about getting the objects we choose to have in our lives; and what that means for the person producing them. Bespoke creative commissions enable clients and makers to come together to produce meaningful and enduring works. Furthermore, they can enable makers to build sustainable careers around their craft.
