DONE/UNDONE
Curated by Joseph Gardner
VISIONARIES 2025: Presenting the future of Australian art, craft and design through the lens of one of the country's most influential creatives.
—
This work places two chairs in dialogue, their surfaces upholstered in textiles created by dismantling Victorian beaded garments and stitching them back together. Each stool carries a metal maker’s plaque, grounding the object in a language of craft and repair.
Streifen’s approach is direct and inquisitive, shaped by instinct and material curiosity. Drawn to fabrics and objects already alive with sentiment, the studio fragments and researches deeply before testing ideas and finding new forms. Working in this way allows them to create pieces that feel lived-in and personal, closer to something they would want in their own homes. These objects embrace process over polish, leaving space for histories to remain visible and unfinished.
—
Streifen is a Melbourne-based design studio founded on the belief that sentimentality is an core impetus within design, acting as both material anchor and passage through which people carry histories, attachments, and meanings.
Founded by Frances Normoyle and Madeleine Murdoch, Streifen spans object design, creative direction, and exhibition-making, conceiving work both exacting and undone, in equal measure.

Joseph Gardner is the 2025 Visionaries curator – presenting DONE/UNDONE: an exhibition of 50+ artists, and one of Craft’s largest exhibitions to date – featuring artists working across medium, scale and practice, representing exceptional Australian talent.
DONE/UNDONE explores the creative process as a space of constant negotiation – a series of decisions to build, erase, repeat, or let be. It’s about that intuitive moment when a maker chooses to pause, to push further, or to dismantle entirely. These are the choices that define the rhythm of making – choices familiar to artists, designers, and creators across disciplines.
Joseph Gardner is the Style Editor at Vogue Living, with a decade of experience in publishing and styling, and the founder of Sydney-based gallery, Studio Gardner.
