Sophie Moran — 'Moderne' Bowl Set, 2025
Two stoneware bowls using motifs and glazes that refer to Art Deco design and mechanical cogs. In juxtaposing these two influences and works made by hand Sophie considers our constant pursuit of technological advancement. What it is to be 'moderne'? Where are we heading and what may we lose along the way? Stacking the bowls brings awareness to variations within the repetitive form. It also hides details, just as the many benefits of making objects by hand are often overshadowed by more prominent concepts of progress.
