Solvere — 'Transition Piece' Necklace
The Transition piece: Can be worn as a choker or hanging pendant, or shortened to a bracelet if desired. The attachments at the back can be adjusted for its owners preference offering versatility in wear for its owner. Inspired by Victorian mourning jewellery this piece inspired by the stages of mourning and the steps towards reappearance in society asserts attention be drawn to the wearer. It is a statement piece to provoke. The artist has made the form by casting flora and pulling wax reliefs to be moulded into something wearable. This piece featured salvaged black baroque pearl.

Angela Louise Powell goes under the jewellery name Solvere. Solvere in Latin means “a breaking into parts”; to loosen, set free, release, melt reflecting Powell’s haptic style of making and curiosity for material testing. Powell employs processes such as silicone casting of plants, electroforming household and industrial waste products, water and sand based casting of metal and wax to create pieces.
