Scotty Bemelen

Scotty Bemelen — 'Blue Tree' Chair, 2026

$25,000

Some things cannot be explained — only felt. Blue Tree was made from that place. A higher frequency. The jute twine sits soft against the hard rock. The crushed copper holds firm beside the carved timber. Four completely different legs, four completely different energies — all carrying the piece together. The material leads. The feeling arrives before the meaning.

Scotty Bemelen is an Australian maker whose craft captures the rich beauty of living fully present and attuned to nature. Through immersive inquiry and unbridled material exploration, Scotty forges characterful works that embody nostalgia, treasured memory and storied beauty. Defying traditional labels, his creations have the presence of characters masquerading as furniture: enigmatic beings that seem alive, ready to walk away if left unobserved.

Scotty’s work exists at the intersection of furniture design, craft and sculpture, blending artistic language with technical mastery. His process involves carving, burning, forging, foraging, shaping, staining and adorning, resulting in pieces rich with story. Gnarled forms, molten-metal accents, patinated surfaces and natural motifs imbue his work with levity and material strength, radiating a beguiling joy. Crafted with skill and imagination under his studio, Bieemele, these objects have been commissioned for private homes and shown in galleries.
