Remy Faint
Remy Faint — 'Snake and flower' Sculptural Vessel, 2023
$1,500
‘Shadow Play, Yellow Springs’ is a series of works that expand upon Remy’s interests in silk-based painting, fabric and ceramic sculpture. Prioritising an approach centred around the cyclical nature of his studio practice — the works evoke cues of imagined topographies, mythologies and figures in nature.
Often revisiting forms of personal and contemporary archives such as photographs, sketches, digital media and collection-based objects, the works offer insight into their creation through remnants and discrepancies in their production. The layering of materials such as silk, canvas, twine, paint, clay and glaze aim to mimic this repeated rebirth of gesture, were mediums and their compositions are constantly fluid and changing. This is iterated in the gestural compositions, where distinctions between legible and obscured forms are paired with perceptions of physical barriers such as passages and windows.

Remy Faint is an emerging artist based on Gadigal-land, Sydney. His practice is motivated by the desire to expand languages of painterly abstraction by examining its global histories. While often referencing collection-based objects and materials specific to his Chinese heritage — his works mediate cross-cultural and material frameworks to explore themes surrounding exchange, visibility and hybridised artistic production. Remy’s works often aim to reframe structural forms such as a barriers, dividers or architectural devices. This cultural referencing coincides with physical acts of assembling, repurposing and combining various materials in his studio.
Faint is the recipient of the Gosford Art Prize 2023.
