Liv Boyle — 'Mussel', Stud Earrings in Oxidised Copper

The wide distribution of mussels, coupled with their efficiency as aquatic filters, makes them an indicator species for microplastic pollution globally. These press-formed molluscs herald the beauty and importance of the humble Mussel.

Notes for wear *Liv embraces the changing qualities of oxide over time with wear, copper will reveal itself as a warm pinkish tone glowing through the blackened patina. Care *perfume, hairspray, etc can affect patinated surfaces.

Keep earrings in their box when not worn. The artist will happily re-oxidise these studs upon client request, at a charge of $30 wholesale.

New Zealand-born cross-disciplinary artist Liv Boyle works in Naarm, Melbourne. Liv collects and re-imagines materials with site-specific relevance, transforming discrete findings into contemporary jewellery and objects. Her work investigates peripheries such as beaches, often referencing indicator species in ecosystems under pressure. Exploring the relational values of art and science, collaboration underpins and enriches Liv’s research-based practice. Liv holds a BFA in Sculpture, Elam School of Fine Arts, The University of Auckland (2005), and an Advanced Diploma of Jewellery Engineering, Melbourne Polytechnic (2013).
