Kathy Temin — 'Wall Work: Open Rectangle 2', 2024
Kathy Temin’s Wall Work: Open Rectangle 2 (2024) extends a body of work first presented at Anna Schwartz Gallery in 2023, bringing together soft sculpture, weaving and art historical references to minimalism and feminism. Crafted from custom dusty-pink synthetic fur, the work draws on associations with comfort, play, anthropomorphism and sentimentality, while its use of repetition, monochrome elements and handmade processes creates a dialogue between seemingly disparate materials and ideas. Influenced by material culture, memory and the interiors of the 1970s, Temin’s practice explores themes of hope, optimism and nostalgia through an unexpected and deeply personal visual language.
