Kathy Temin — 'Large Chartruese Ball Tree', 2020
'Large Chartreuse Ball Tree (2020) reflects Kathy Temin’s ongoing exploration of memory, material culture and the visual language of 1970s interior design, with its sense of optimism, repetition and nostalgia. Drawn to the work’s heightened chartreuse hue, Temin uses colour and materiality to evoke personal and collective memories. Influenced by topiary, idealised landscapes and repeated forms, the sculpture belongs to her broader My Monument and garden series, in which themes of remembrance and the symbolic role of gardens are recurring concerns. This singular tree also informs a larger public artwork commissioned for the 97 Alma Rd development by Neometro, designed by Kerstin Thompson in East St Kilda.
