Karen Gall
Karen Gall — 'The Beauty in Decay' Pendant
The Beauty in Decay pendant represents the gradual transformation of weathering, exposing the underlying layers to reveal the beauty within. The ancient technique of sand casting was used to erode the form, intentionally leaving grits of sand from the process in the surface to contrast with small black diamonds.
This piece reminds us of the beauty and impermanence of the land and its materials.

Karen Gall is a contemporary jeweller and metalsmith based in Melbourne/Naarm. Karen works with precious metals, predominantly sterling silver, using traditional metalsmithing techniques. She uses the ancient technique of sand casting to create unique and unpredictable textures in the metal.
Through her practice she expresses her personal connection to landscape and place as she explores themes of impermanence and belonging. Inspired by her Scottish heritage, she is continually drawn to wild, rugged natural landscapes and weathered urban environments and the narratives within. Her work references the shifts and changes in the landscape over time and celebrates the beauty in the land and its materials.
