Fiona Lewis — 'Baywatch' Sculptural Vessel

$980
This ceramic sculpture is a wheel-thrown vase inspired by the iconic 1990s television series Baywatch. Handmade from earthenware clay, hand-painted in bright red and finished with a clear glaze, the piece features the recognisable Baywatch logo, drawing on the bold visual language and nostalgia of one of the decade’s most recognisable TV shows. The traditional vase form is reimagined as a playful sculptural object, combining handmade ceramics with a familiar piece of 1990s screen culture. This piece is sculptural only, is not watertight and should be used for display or dry arrangements only.

Fiona Lewis is a Melbourne-based ceramic artist creating hand-built sculptural works inspired by familiar imagery and objects from film, television and popular culture. Working primarily with earthenware clay, her practice transforms recognisable references into playful, tactile ceramic objects. Fiona Lewis' ceramic practice explores nostalgia, memory and popular culture, with a particular interest in the role film and television play in shaping personal and collective experience. Her work considers how seemingly ordinary objects can become loaded with meaning through their association with particular characters, scenes or moments in time.

Through humour, sentimentality and a playful approach to form, Lewis examines the relationship between screen culture, memory and the objects we attach meaning to. By translating fleeting on-screen imagery into physical objects, her work gives permanence to the visual fragments that linger with us long after viewing.
