Ella Bendrups — 'Stacked Figure' 2023
This Stacked Figure sculpture continues Ella's exploration of ancient clay and stone artefacts and their ability to transcend the times and cultures in which they were created. Handbuilt with coils, the surface of the piece was hammered to emphasise the interplay of light and shadow.
Ella Bendrups is a ceramic artist based in Naarm/Melbourne. Through her practice she explores ancient clay and stone artefacts and their ability to transcend the times and cultures in which they were created. Her works embrace the expressive nature of hand building, pinching, coiling, carving and hammering clay to highlight the maker's touch. Commissions and limited series are created in a small home studio with each piece resulting in an innate form refined for the modern context.
Bendrups has participated in exhibitions in Victoria and New South Wales. She has a background in styling and has completed a Bachelor of Communication Design, RMIT, 2010, and a Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration at RMIT, 2013.
