Claudia Bloxsome — 'Like Mist, Like Cloud', Textile Wall Work

A narrow, tapering form gathered to a point at the top and suspended from a single wire loop. The cloth is made of vintage silk and stainless steel thread woven together. The structure reads through the surface: internal wire curves visible beneath, the body holding air as much as fibre. The weave loosens toward the hem, releasing into long frayed strands. Below, two silk cocoons hang at intervals on fine wire, like weights. The overall feeling is of something caught mid-movement- neither fully solid nor dissolved.

Claudia Bloxsome's practice is rooted in the transformative potential of weaving. Inspired by the rich history of weaving, which has both sustained societies through utilitarian constraints and evolved into a contemporary art form, weaving is a lifelong pursuit for Claudia, offering endless possibilities for experimentation. Through meticulous manipulation of fibres, she explores the interplay of time, sentiment and care. Often incorporating metal and timber as scaffolding to elevate woven cloth into sculptural forms.

Her personal experience with mental health also informs her work, providing a therapeutic outlet and a desire to create spaces of visual respite for others.
