Claudia Bloxsome — 'Like a Searchlight', Textile Wall Work

$3,200

A woven form that hangs away from the wall on custom brackets. It is curved and open at the top, tapering to a frayed hem. The cloth is structured by wire, giving it a quiet tension between rigidity and drape. Linen and kibiso silk are woven in thin panels, then woven again, the copper-toned warp surfacing through a dark ground in shifting registers of warmth and shadow. The selvedge edges are left raw.

Claudia Bloxsome's practice is rooted in the transformative potential of weaving. Inspired by the rich history of weaving, which has both sustained societies through utilitarian constraints and evolved into a contemporary art form, weaving is a lifelong pursuit for Claudia, offering endless possibilities for experimentation. Through meticulous manipulation of fibres, she explores the interplay of time, sentiment and care. Often incorporating metal and timber as scaffolding to elevate woven cloth into sculptural forms.

Her personal experience with mental health also informs her work, providing a therapeutic outlet and a desire to create spaces of visual respite for others.

"Through rhythm, colour, and texture, I aim to evoke a sense of calm and wonder, offering viewers a momentary escape into a world of aesthetic repose." - Claudia Bloxsome
