Billy Horn

Billy Horn — 'Array Polar' Table Stool, 2024

$1,750
A small table stool with contrasting textures of rich solid timber, shiny red acrylic, polished stainless steel and a splash of cork. The acrylic seat is bent over all four sides of the stool and fixed to the Queensland Maple legs with plastic mirror nuts. Billy’s little stools are a playful combination of materials including folded acrylic, premium hardwood, soft cork and cheap plastic nuts. Inspired by luxury design, functional furniture and effective manufacturing techniques the stools are the result of many iterations of a particular fixing technique involving three corners of a cube.

Billy Horn is a machinist and fabricator operating a workshop in Brunswick where he designs and makes objects for Melbourne’s vibrant art and design industry. Now making his own work, Billy contrasts the serious with the silly, the bright with the dull, the cheap with the premium and the luxurious with the sensible. His focus is on making functional, practical pieces brimming with playfulness - furniture and objects crafted with a wink.
