Belinda Newick – 'Kidenere Chain' Necklace, 2024
Kidenere: maps the links in the physical, social and symbolic contexts of chains-interconnecting lives. In late 2023 I received a kidney transplant in the ANZKX paired kidney exchange program at Royal Melbourne Hospital, in exchange my partner donated a kidney to extend a stranger's life. Paired kidney donor chains can create opportunities for endless recipient-donor pairings, those in need and those able of body to give. My chain reflects our paired chain, printed with hospital gauze. Made to acknowledge the lives changed and renewed by the extraordinary gift of organ donation.
