Amy Wale
Amy Wale — 'Beautiful Vomit', Sculptural Vessel
This large sculptural vessel was wheel thrown in parts, pieced together and then layered with slips and glazes to create an intriguing textural spiky surface. Beautiful as an ornamental piece, but also watertight as a vase.

Amy Wale is a ceramic artist based in Melbourne/Naarm. Amy makes sculptural vessels using both wheel throwing and hand building techniques. They are then layered in unique ways with slips and multiple glazes, creating unique, complex and sometimes dangerous surfaces.
Her practice is, in essence, about people. Most pieces have a lean, a vulnerability, and elements like handles further add to the anthropomorphic qualities. When placed together they sit in conversation, or form a community. They crave connection, yet conversely repel you with their uninviting surfaces. Amy's work - in its complicated marriage of beauty and horror - is both an expression of her journey through perimenopause and a celebration of our human-ness.
