Alexandra Howie — 'Milkstone Curtain Vase', Sculptural Vase

$600

This porcelain vessel is coil-built and features a flowing drape that evokes the movement of fabric or curtains drawn across the body. Finished in a glaze the artist fondly refers to as Milkstone-a satin lithium carbonate glaze with a soft luminosity-the piece balances fluidity with structural presence. Both sensual and architectural, the form nods to the quiet drama of classical folds. Watertight and easy to clean with warm water.

Alexandra Howie is a ceramic artist based in Melbourne/Naarm. Alexandra uses clay as her primary medium—creating hand built, sculptural vases. She is driven by a fascination with the materiality of clay and its potential to evoke movement and mimicry. Her process is as much about intuition and spontaneity as it is about technical skill.  In her latest pieces, she delves into themes of drapery, masking, and the nuances of perception, crafting functional vases that invite viewers to consider what is hidden and what is revealed. Alexandra showcased her work at the 1000 Vases exhibition during Paris Design Week in September 2024.
