Alexandra Howie — 'Draped Moon Jar' Sculptural Vase

$1,000
This moon jar-inspired vase features a sculpted surface with dynamic, loose drapery that creates a sense of movement and energy, inspired by the flowing forms of classical marble sculpture. The texture wraps around the form, adding visual tension and depth. The smooth stoneware is finished with a clear glossy glaze, enhancing its sculptural presence. The result is a striking, sophisticated piece with a luminous presence that shifts in light, ideal as both a sculptural object and a functional vessel.

Alexandra Howie is a ceramic artist based in Melbourne/Naarm. Alexandra uses clay as her primary medium—creating hand built, sculptural vases. She is driven by a fascination with the materiality of clay and its potential to evoke movement and mimicry. Her process is as much about intuition and spontaneity as it is about technical skill.  In her latest pieces, she delves into themes of drapery, masking, and the nuances of perception, crafting functional vases that invite viewers to consider what is hidden and what is revealed. Alexandra showcased her work at the 1000 Vases exhibition during Paris Design Week in September 2024.
