Anastasia La Fey

Anastasia La Fey — 'The Uncertain Behaviour of Clouds 1', 2021

$3,600

The Uncertain Behaviour of Clouds project, proposes to build upon the conceptual framework of an existing body of work to develop and create a small series of new "light and sculpture" objects that sit at the nexus of contemporary sculpture, environmental art and functional craft. Using research around the concept of "Cloud Feedback" and how the clouds are changing alongside meteorological/ atmospherically optics as inspiration, artist/maker Anastasia La Fey and collaborator, lighting designer Darcy Jones (Studio Mungo) propose to bring together complex material manipulations and sustainable design methodologies to create works not only embedded with both form and function but that encourage deeper consideration about the environment we inhabit and our impact upon it. Sustainable design methodologies and environmental concerns are to be embedded into these works at every level. They embody a holistic design approach that weaves together artistic value, design integrity, social & environmental idealism and an understanding that the objects we make impact the world we place them in.

Anastasia La Fey is a multidisciplinary artist based in Naarm/Melbourne on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country. La Fey is working across realms of textile artistry, inhabitable sculpture, installations and photography to create ephemeral, environmental and collaborative multi-form works. Her work is exploratory and experimental, investigating concepts of inhabitation, isolation, transmutation, relationship to self and the environment.

La Fey began her career as a couturier and costumier before pivoting to an art-based practice, freeing her from a particular way of making things.
