Studio Kaytar — 'Rockpool' Sculptural Catchall Dish in Brass 2024

$480

Rockpool sculptural catchall is sand-cast by hand and alchemy to represent the unity of matter, spirit and energy. Rockpool references the rugged beauty of coastal rock formations in a sandcast metal sculpture. Its contours reflect the organic forms shaped by nature's elements and the shallow crevices provide a sanctuary for treasured items and jewellery.

This solid metal piece was sand cast by hand. Due to the nature of the material, the uniquely poured ripples, and pitting are to be celebrated for their individual beauty. Raw aluminium, brass and bronze will naturally develop a patina over time, adding to its living inherent beauty. If desired, a high-quality metal polish can be used to restore original brightness and shine.

Jacqueline Kaytar is a Croatian Australian living on Turrbal and Yuggera country. Since beginning her creative journey in textile design, Kaytar has developed her stylistic vocabulary in the creation of objects and space over more than 20 years. Kaytar’s artistic process is guided by alchemic experimentation and the modification of natural matter. This focus on transformation is borne of her interest in the consciousness of things. Working with materials from nature, such as metal, flax, minerals and beeswax – all selected for their symbolic associations – Kaytar believes that this matter, when imbued with her human touch, becomes animate. This spark of life is not only present during the process of artistic transformation, but also resonates with viewers interacting with Kaytar’s finished forms. The artist’s hope is that her works in lighting, sculpture, textiles and the built environment take us to realms of sensory pleasure, memory and contemplation, allowing us to regain a sense of awe in all things.
