Alexandra Howie — 'Vertical Draped' Sculptural Vase

$440
This hand-built vase is made from a mix of smooth and coarse white recycled stoneware clay. The sculpted surface is inspired by the vertical draping of fabric. This watertight vessel is perfect for displaying fresh flowers or as a standalone art piece. Easy to clean by hand in warm water, it’s a versatile addition to any space. This piece was exhibited as part of Paris Design Week in September 2024.
Alexandra Howie is a ceramic artist based in Melbourne/Naarm. Alexandra uses clay as her primary medium—creating hand built, sculptural vases. She is driven by a fascination with the materiality of clay and its potential to evoke movement and mimicry. Her process is as much about intuition and spontaneity as it is about technical skill.  In her latest pieces, she delves into themes of drapery, masking, and the nuances of perception, crafting functional vases that invite viewers to consider what is hidden and what is revealed. Alexandra showcased her work at the 1000 Vases exhibition during Paris Design Week in September 2024.
