Ryan L Foote — Crystalline Glaze Oval Dish in Wattle

A small porcelain dish with custom glaze designed by Ryan Foote.

Ryan's crystalline glazes were custom developed over the course of four years at his Melbourne studio. Involving a complex recipe of multiple oxides and minerals, and a firing process which is driven by precise adjustments in temperature - each resulting work is unique. The crystals seen on each piece grow within the molten glaze under the extreme heat and pressure of the kiln, creating distinctive arrangements which can never be repeated.

With a strong interest in the designed food experience, RLFDS focuses on both the physical and ephemeral encounters we have with these objects.

R L Foote Design Studio was founded by Ryan Foote and has exhibited extensively around Australia and overseas, including large installations at the NGV, Federation Square, Gertrude Contemporary Gallery, Melbourne GPO Building and Flinders Lane Gallery. Foote completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Sculpture and Spatial Practice at the Victorian College of the Arts.
