Nicole Lawrence — Warp, Weft Room Screen, 2025
DONE/UNDONE
Curated by Joseph Gardner
VISIONARIES 2025: Presenting the future of Australian art, craft and design through the lens of one of the country's most influential creatives.
—
Warp/Weft pays homage to the timeless practice of weaving, skilfully transposing textile techniques into the medium of metal and Australian hardwood. This delicate monolith plays with both colour and light, casting delicately patterned shadows.—
Nicole Lawrence is a Melbourne-based designer and maker specialising in furniture and lighting. Balancing structural purpose with artistic freedom, Lawrence draws on her technical expertise from over a decade of working with a myriad of materials and her process-led methodology to create contemporary pieces. Lawrence’s studies in Gold & Silversmithing and Industrial Design have allowed for a broad approach and understanding of production techniques, ranging from the ancient to the innovative. Meticulous manipulation of metals transmutes rigidity into fluidity - shaping pieces that beckon interaction, inviting viewers to ponder the equilibrium between strength & delicacy. Launching her eponymous studio in Melbourne, Australia, at the start of 2020 began the journey for Lawrence to develop her practice to include studio collections, exhibition works, creative collaborations and commissions.14 November 2025 - 7 February 2026

Joseph Gardner is the 2025 Visionaries curator – presenting DONE/UNDONE: an exhibition of 50+ artists, and one of Craft’s largest exhibitions to date – featuring artists working across medium, scale and practice, representing exceptional Australian talent.
DONE/UNDONE explores the creative process as a space of constant negotiation – a series of decisions to build, erase, repeat, or let be. It’s about that intuitive moment when a maker chooses to pause, to push further, or to dismantle entirely. These are the choices that define the rhythm of making – choices familiar to artists, designers, and creators across disciplines.
Joseph Gardner is the Style Editor at Vogue Living, with a decade of experience in publishing and styling, and the founder of Sydney-based gallery, Studio Gardner.
