Scott Elk

Scott Elk — 'Dusk + Dust' Hydria Urn, 2025

$3,200
A colourful Greek inspired hydria vessel. The vessel is part of a series exploring the processing of grief. While the abstracted landscape depicted in the glazing is Australian, El was inspired by the experience of snow falling on a recent trip to North America.
"As the snow fell, I saw it as this exchange; the snow was falling from the sky bringing with it happiness, as my sadness, my grief, worked in the opposite way, lifting from me and drifting away."
The artwork is referencing the hydria from ancient Greece; used to store, transport, and serve water. The snow is the hydration the hot-landscape depicted needs.

Scott Elk is a multidisciplinary artist from Sydney Australia, exploring the world through ceramics and painting, with a strong undercurrent of drawing that runs through his entire creative output. At times this searching veers into printmaking, and sound as he looks for the right expression of an idea. With his formative years spent in visual arts, Scott’s disillusionment with the commercialisation of his creative energy pushed him to make the decision to pursue art full time, wishing to use his powers for good, working on art and projects personally driven, and for causes he believes in. The various mediums Scott uses in his artwork has guided his foray into professional work experience, such as screen printing wallpaper, as well as pursuing tertiary education and teaching ceramics and drawing at some of the world’s leading art schools with the sole intention of expanding his learning as a student to better produce artwork.
