Karen Gall
Karen Gall — 'Weathered Bangle II' in Silver
A bold band in oxidised sterling silver representing strength and resilience.
This piece is start of the Weathered bangle series which depicts the gradual transformation of our coastal landscapes, continually shaped by the forces of nature and humankind. The ancient technique of sand casting was used to break down the bangle form, with each piece becoming the mold for the next piece, progressively eroding and changing the form.
This series reminds us of the strength and fragility of the landscape and its materials.

Karen Gall is a contemporary jeweller and metalsmith based in Melbourne/Naarm. Karen works with precious metals, predominantly sterling silver, using traditional metalsmithing techniques. She uses the ancient technique of sand casting to create unique and unpredictable textures in the metal.
Through her practice she expresses her personal connection to landscape and place as she explores themes of impermanence and belonging. Inspired by her Scottish heritage, she is continually drawn to wild, rugged natural landscapes and weathered urban environments and the narratives within. Her work references the shifts and changes in the landscape over time and celebrates the beauty in the land and its materials.
