Kath Inglis

Kath Inglis — 'Protea Brooch', in Large Blues

$700

A large sized brooch in hand cut, coloured, carved and heat fused PVC.

Inspired by her surroundings; with political and social issues to weather extremes and subtle events, Kath Inglis' jewellery pieces become an autobiography of her life. she takes great joy in transforming a mundane material into something precious.

Raised in Darwin, Kath Inglis moved to Adelaide to study contemporary jewellery. Graduating from the South Australian School of Art in 2000, Inglis continued to develop her practice by working from a number of studios, including the renowned Gray Street Workshop, Jam Factory Metal Design Studio.

For ten years her practice has focused on the manipulation and transformation of a commonplace material, Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC), into the precious. The material is initially coloured then small pieces are removed from the surface through a process of hand cut incisions and carved patterns. Transformed from its prosaic ‘natural’ state, this new material glitters with a play of light and reflection.

Inglis’s practice is multi-faceted and includes frequent exhibitions in national and international galleries, large scale collaborative public art projects, lecturing in jewellery at the University of South Australia, a member of the Craftsouth board and the Arts SA peer assessment panel.
