VISIONARIES 2025: Presenting the future of Australian art, craft and design through the lens of one of the country's most influential creatives.

The Talisman Vessels are stoneware vessels with playful accents of hand formed clay, colour and lustre complimenting the form. Hand-thrown and fired multiple times to create a depth of surface, the vases are watertight and can be washed with hot water.

Jade Thorsen is a ceramic artist and educator in Gadigal/ Sydney. She works with stoneware clays and found materials, using multiple firings to create layered textures and colours in her works. Thorsen uses material processes to guide her practice, considering both what they are made of and what they hold over time. She allows time let make each piece to guide its direction and outcome, with a focus on traditional forms that are augmented and reimagined into the present. Her practice is in continuing conversation with her work as a secondary school educator through constant practice alongside and amongst young people, creating a balance between technical skill and play. Thorsen completed an Honors of Industrial Design at RMIT, 2015as well as a Masters of Teaching (Secondary), (UoM, 2019).

Joseph Gardner is the 2025 Visionaries curator – presenting DONE/UNDONE: an exhibition of 50+ artists, and one of Craft’s largest exhibitions to date – featuring artists working across medium, scale and practice, representing exceptional Australian talent.
DONE/UNDONE explores the creative process as a space of constant negotiation – a series of decisions to build, erase, repeat, or let be. It’s about that intuitive moment when a maker chooses to pause, to push further, or to dismantle entirely. These are the choices that define the rhythm of making – choices familiar to artists, designers, and creators across disciplines.
Joseph Gardner is the Style Editor at Vogue Living, with a decade of experience in publishing and styling, and the founder of Sydney-based gallery, Studio Gardner.
