Damien Wright — Reading Chair

Wright Studios is a commission-based furniture studio located in Melbourne, Australia. All pieces are designed and made by award-winning craftsman, Damien Wright.

Master craftsperson Damien Wright specialises in using Australian hardwood timbers, particularly rare indigenous species such as Ancient Redgum, Gidgee and Wallowa. He combines traditional woodworking techniques with a modern design aesthetic to create unique and beautiful items that will last a lifetime. Damien works directly with private clients and public institutions as well as in collaboration with leading architects and interior designers to create expertly crafted pieces made to last. 

His iconic Reading Chair is handcrafted using ancient red gum and finished in Tung oil. Ancient Red Gum is a 10,000-15,000 year old timber, and is recovered from a road rock mine in Wodonga and is known for its blackened appearance due to its age.
