A re-contextualisation of the traditional high-back dining chair, the Bound chair is a celebration of contrasts, both in form and material. Conceived in response to the Alt.Material: Availability brief in 2022, the original prototype design was a tensioned chair constructed from Danish cord, exhaust pipes and rebar, utilising only available materials and fully recyclable elements. Remaining true to this original concept, the Bound chair is a venture in viewing sustainable design through the lens of the entire product lifecycle; the chair is made from 100% recyclable and biodegradeable materials and is designed so that it can be completely deconstructed into base components for repair or recycling.
This 'Oxblood + Coffee' colourway was developed for the Melbourne Design Week 2024 Exhibition Overlay: A New Australian Heritage, presented by CJ Cornish & Locki Humphrey.

Locki (they/them) is an object designer & digital 3D artist whose furniture work re-interprets traditional forms and methods. By using few visible fixtures they are able to achieve clean silhouettes that are dramatic and playful in proportion, and they strive to find a balance between practicality and ornamentation in their designs. With a particular focus on local manufacturing, minimal intervention and sustainable practices, Locki believes that good design should intentionally and carefully walk this line between beauty and function.
