These raku cylinders by Sydney based artist Lia Klugman explore the intersection of control and chance through a traditional Japanese pottery technique. The cylindrical form provides a simple yet dynamic canvas for the unpredictable effects of fire and smoke. Each piece capturing the beauty of imperfection, embracing the wabi-sabi philosophy of finding grace in flaws and transience. Through these cylinders, Lia celebrate the interplay of earth, air, fire, and water, creating art that reflects the raw, transformative beauty of nature and the quiet acceptance of impermanence and unpredictability.

Lia is a Brazilian born ceramic artist who spend many years in Africa before immigrating to Australia. Her style lends from both South American and African influences while portraying distinct Australian tones. Lia has study under many renowned international ceramic masters at various Seminars and with prestigious Australian ceramic teachers at the National Art School. She completed her graduate Diploma in Ceramics at the Brookvale Tafe. For over 25 years Lia has been sharing her knowledge and love for clay by teaching Ceramics classes Waverley Woollahra Art School, Bondi Clay as well as at her home studio.
