In Emma’s hands, baler twine is the unsuspected medium transformed to intricate textiles, strong in integrity yet ethereal in appearance. Using this unusual material, instinctual inquiry and endless exploration Emma forges a base connection between nature and humanity. An impression of Emma’s fingerprint is marked in each small dot as she welds them together to create stunning textile forms. The textiles are realised through a methodical, repetitious and almost meditative process. Emma works her unique medium into compositions that present an earth, raw expression of beauty that’s intriguing and captivating to behold.

Emma Davies is a well recognized Melbourne based artist and has been exhibiting for the past 30 years. Her highly sought after installation work is held in corporate and private collections in Australia and around the world. Emma’s unique process juxtaposes her interest in bio-mimicry with the use of non-traditional materials such polypropylene packaging, twines and recycled plastics. Key aspects of Emma’s work investigate and celebrate texture, colour and form. Her interest in the ephemeral is counter balanced with the use of material that is highly durable and mouldable so that a new identity can be created in the form of stills and installations.
"My process of discovery and invention is largely experimental. I satisfy my curiosity by working with contemporary materials and using unconventional methods to challenge the possibilities of each creation. My reward is in removing materials from common functionality such as packaging and being able to transform what is intrinsically ugly into something beautiful." Emma Davies
