Tara Shackell

Tara Shackell – Medium Flared Lip Bowl, 2022

$110

Made from stoneware and fired in a reduction atmosphere, this collection of bowls aims to to create balance between lightness of form and the speckled blue-brown internal glaze and the grounded-ness of the earthy brown exterior glaze.

Tara Shackell is a ceramicist based in south west Victoria. She works in clay to produce quiet, considered objects for everyday use and contemplation. Her pots are thrown on the wheel, with a focus on simplicity and materiality. Tara studied a Bachelor of Fine Art at the Victorian College of the Arts and later completed Diploma of Art (Ceramics). Recently she has been dividing her time between teaching at School of Clay and Art and working from her small studio making functional ceramics and work for exhibition. Her current work focuses on creating simple objects that express tranquillity, quietness and space. These pieces explore the relationship between form and surface through the subtle interaction between clay and glazes.
