Nathan Martin – 'Melancholy Vessel 04', 2023

$550

The vessels are part of the continued Melancholy project where materials are experimented through processes and texture. By applying unorthodox techniques the material is eaten away, leaving a remnant of it's previous shape. The hand sculpted form guides how the material reacts, resulting in unexpected forms. This leaves a unique surface texture completely individual to each piece, which is then accentuated after being cast in aluminium, also adding notions of gothic characteristics.

SATURDAY YARD WORK by Nathan Martin is a Eora/Sydney based practice that aims to find a medium between sculpture, craft, and functional objects, through experimentation of material and processes. Nathan looks to the unorthodox methods of production and through this, seeks to find surprising visual and sensory results displayed through form and texture. In the creation of one-off pieces, Nathan’s experimental and process-led design approach aims to celebrate the offbeat, the ugly, and all nuances of hand produced objects.
