Alexandra Howie — 'Fractured Cobalt Moon Jar', Sculptural Vase
$1,000
This hand-built porcelain moon jar features a fractured, expressive surface-the surface has been polished and brushed with a cobalt oxide wash. Inspired by both classical drapery and archaeological remnants, the piece embraces imperfection and rawness-surface cracks are highlighted rather than hidden, becoming part of the visual language. The form holds the tension between elegance and erosion, suggesting something unearthed or remembered. Watertight and easy to clean with warm water.

Alexandra Howie is a ceramic artist based in Melbourne/Naarm. Alexandra uses clay as her primary medium—creating hand built, sculptural vases. She is driven by a fascination with the materiality of clay and its potential to evoke movement and mimicry. Her process is as much about intuition and spontaneity as it is about technical skill. In her latest pieces, she delves into themes of drapery, masking, and the nuances of perception, crafting functional vases that invite viewers to consider what is hidden and what is revealed. Alexandra showcased her work at the 1000 Vases exhibition during Paris Design Week in September 2024.
