Annie Paxton
Annie Paxton — 'Form IV' Cabinet, 2024
$8,800
‘Form IV’ is a performer.
‘Form IV’ is a cabinet.
‘Form IV’ is a play on the ‘performance’ of containment; how we reveal or conceal the possessions of our private lives. A delicate mesh wraps the cabinet, performing as a curtain, a threshold, a mediator, permitting entry when drawn. There is something negotiated at this threshold that signals a performance. Perhaps something ritualistic. Perhaps something echoing what Bachelard calls the imaginative attention of the ‘veritable organs of the secret psychological life.’
Sand cast recycled aluminium meets polished sheet aluminium, which suspends a stainless steel mesh. The formal expression is an investigation of texture, form, and threshold; a mass that reveals an obscured transparency. The informal expression is one of a world concealed; a world charged with a ‘secret psychological life.’

Annie Paxton is a Naarm (Melbourne) based multidisciplinary designer. She works as an architect alongside her creative practice which seeks to navigate the juncture between architecture and furniture/object, with a keen interest in how design drives and is driven by the poetics of everyday life. With the tendency to imbue works with patina and the trace of the hand, the interrogation of time/process as a material is often a salient driver in her practice.
