Alexandra Howie — 'Half-Draped Pitcher' Sculptural Vase
$750
This single-handled pitcher is hand-formed using the coil technique, with a sculpted surface that is partially draped—an intentional reference to classical sculpture. Inspired by the elegant tension of marble figures, the form explores what is revealed and concealed, referencing the graceful folds of draped bodies. Crafted from smooth white stoneware and finished with a lithium carbonate satin glaze the artist fondly calls Milkstone. Watertight and easy to clean with warm water.

Alexandra Howie is a ceramic artist based in Melbourne/Naarm. Alexandra uses clay as her primary medium—creating hand built, sculptural vases. She is driven by a fascination with the materiality of clay and its potential to evoke movement and mimicry. Her process is as much about intuition and spontaneity as it is about technical skill. In her latest pieces, she delves into themes of drapery, masking, and the nuances of perception, crafting functional vases that invite viewers to consider what is hidden and what is revealed. Alexandra showcased her work at the 1000 Vases exhibition during Paris Design Week in September 2024.
