Alexandra Howie — 'Draped Slab Vessel', Sculptural Vase
This slab-built ceramic vessel features a sculpted surface that evokes draped fabric-an intentional gesture inspired by classical sculpture. As an evolution of the artist's ongoing references to marble drapery, the work brings the language of folds into conversation with a more architectural, geometric form. Made from smooth white stoneware and finished with a burnt-bronze glaze. Watertight and easy to clean with warm water. Please note, this glaze is not food safe.

Alexandra Howie is a ceramic artist based in Melbourne/Naarm. Alexandra uses clay as her primary medium—creating hand built, sculptural vases. She is driven by a fascination with the materiality of clay and its potential to evoke movement and mimicry. Her process is as much about intuition and spontaneity as it is about technical skill. In her latest pieces, she delves into themes of drapery, masking, and the nuances of perception, crafting functional vases that invite viewers to consider what is hidden and what is revealed. Alexandra showcased her work at the 1000 Vases exhibition during Paris Design Week in September 2024.
