Locki Humphrey — 'C501' Table Lamp, 2025

$2,800

The C501 Table Lamp, from Naarm based artist Locki Humphrey forms part of their Oxide collection which explores transformation and the moment where one material evolves into another. Working with industrial remnants, the series reflects on scarcity and the potential of repurposing discarded resources through a focused, process-led approach.

The collection features a restrained palette of stained timber, raw metal, undyed recycled fabrics, paper cord and cactus leather. Lampshades are made from textile waste, timber is stained using iron oxide derived from metal waste, and leather is sourced from food waste. Traditional craft techniques intersect with industrial processes, balancing precision with intuition. Each piece is designed for longevity - constructed to be repaired, disassembled, and ultimately recycled.

Locki's (they/them) approach to object design focuses on minimal intervention, craft and sustainability. Their process is driven by both intuition and intention, an exploration of material, colour, texture, proportion and the potential of recycled materials. Championing Australian manufacturing and designing for deconstruction, Locki's contemporary furniture and lighting collections challenge convention by balancing craft and innovation. The resulting pieces feel both familiar and refreshingly new.

By/Product: Oxide

May 9 - June 14, 2025

The By/Product series challenges Australian makers and designers to repurpose discarded materials into collectable furniture, art and craft.

The aim of the series is to highlight the value of raw materials and to recognise the threat of material scarcity on designers, artists and makers, and associated impacts on their artistic and commercial outcomes. Through this process, designers and makers work to rebuild structure, redefine aesthetic appeal and reinstate value in otherwise discarded materials.

With a particular focus on minimal intervention and sustainable practices, Locki presents a range of furniture and objects that can be assembled and disassembled for ongoing repair and re-use.

By/Product forms part Conscious Craft – a movement to redefine our relationship with materials in a considered, responsible and responsive way.
