Gabbee Stolp — 'Soft Shell' Necklace

A Tasmanian King scallop shell covered in soft silver leather and lined with royal blue velvet, with silver leather ties to wear tied high as a choker or dangled longer. Hand and machine sewn.

Gabbee Stolp is a visual artist and contemporary jeweller based in Wulawali/New Norfolk, Lutruwita/Tasmania. Gabbee uses found natural/materials such as shells and stones, in combination with shimmering textiles like metallic leather and velvet. Gabbee learnt to sew from her mother and grandmother and utilises the act of hand sewing as a symbol of gentle nurture. In combining textiles with natural materials, her works demonstrate care and consideration of the importance of nature and place.
