Alexandra Howie — 'Draped Bottle with Flared Rim' Sculptural Vase

$1,000
This tall vase features sculpted drapery that wraps around its form, creating a sense of tension and movement. Inspired by the dramatic, twisting qualities of classical sculpture, the folds draw the eye with their fluidity. Crafted from smooth stoneware and finished with a glossy, subtle glaze that shifts in colour—appearing blue with hints of pink or purple depending on the light. Watertight and easy to clean with warm water, it’s perfect for fresh flowers or as a striking sculptural piece.

Alexandra Howie is a ceramic artist based in Melbourne/Naarm. Alexandra uses clay as her primary medium—creating hand built, sculptural vases. She is driven by a fascination with the materiality of clay and its potential to evoke movement and mimicry. Her process is as much about intuition and spontaneity as it is about technical skill.  In her latest pieces, she delves into themes of drapery, masking, and the nuances of perception, crafting functional vases that invite viewers to consider what is hidden and what is revealed. Alexandra showcased her work at the 1000 Vases exhibition during Paris Design Week in September 2024.
