Theodosius Ng — 'Pedestal Ritual' Sculptural Vessel

$525

These ritual vessels are a homage to the space that exists between my ancestors and I. Reminiscent of the traditional censers used in spiritual offerings, these forms are the contemporary reinterpretations of a centuries old ritual where the veneration our ancestors using incense was a sacred and necessary part of daily life - similarly echoing the sacred act of reclaiming my heritage. It is the acceptance of the social and political impacts I experience as a person of colour; being born into, engaging with, rejecting wholly, reclaiming and reconnecting with a culture that is intrinsically part of my identity. It is a manifestation of the internal rebirth of my cultural identity, acknowledging and honouring my ancestors who also refined and perfected ceramics and pottery.

Theodosius Ng is a ceramic artist and designer based in Melbourne/Naarm.
Inspired by their queerness, chronic illness and immigrant experience, Ng is curious
about exploring the extraneous within the familiar through cultural, ritual, and spiritual
concepts - revealing an inherent need to find pattern, beauty, and ritual. Their works blur
the boundary between form and function and aims to co-create and collaborate with nature and community. He has an associate Degree, Interior Decoration and Design from RMIT and attended School of Clay & Art, Brunswick.
