Tantri Mustika — 'Naga Offering Bowl', 2023

Offerings hold profound significance in Balinese culture, serving as a means of expressing devotion, gratitude and spiritual connection. Known as "canang sari", meticulously crafted offerings are an integral part of daily life and ceremonies. The act of creating and giving offerings not only demonstrates respect for the gods and ancestors but also reinforces the bonds within the community. offerings symbolize the Balinese belief in maintaining a harmonious balance between the seen and unseen worlds, seeking protection and blessings for the present and the future. These offerings are a beautiful manifestation of the rich spiritual and artistic traditions that permeate Balinese society.

Tantri Mustika is a Melbourne-based ceramicist who makes unique and colourful ceramics by incorporating meticulously hand-stained and marbled clays, mimicking characteristics of natural stones. Her interest in the material capabilities of clay can be seen as a catalyst of her practice; producing small batches allows each piece to be unique and one of a kind through the techniques employed.
