Femme Brutale
Femme Brutale — 'Ember Light Totem - Offcuts:T7', Architectural Lamp
—
Helen Claire Davies is an industrial designer and interior architect, and the founder of Femme Brutale. She splits her time between Naarm (Melbourne) and New York. At the foundation of Femme Brutale is a simple form, a cube with a single curved edge, which in isolation is stark, unyielding, brutal. The form is repeated and treated; carved, clad, burnt. Wood becomes undulating, fur is etched to invoke wood grain, glass becomes molten and is preserved in sensual, lucid forms. Some shimmer, some seemingly deaden light, and some invoke touch.
Over the past two decades, she has collaborated with leading studios in New York and Los Angeles, contributing to projects across hospitality, Broadway, and award-winning furniture and exhibition design.

The exhibition forms part of Conscious Craft – a Craft Victoria initiative showcasing innovative creations by makers and designers who are actively considering sustainability and ethics in their production methods and use of materials.
This event is part of Melbourne Design Week 2026, an initiative of the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria
