Valerie Restarick

Valerie Restarick — Dinner Plate

Initially trained as a painter in the 1960s at the National Gallery School under acclaimed Australian artist, John Brack − Restarick moved to London to teach after finishing her studies. While there, she quickly became enthralled with pottery and today her practice spans over 40 years. A master potter and teacher, Restarick is known for her minimalist style and draws influence from the Bernard Leach School and Japanese aesthetics which have segues to Edmund de Waal and Minimalism.

Designing her purpose built home and studio in 2000 with architect Jude Doyle – North Carlton Ceramics has become a bastion for lovers of clay. Teaching and working from her studio has allowed her a flexibility of practice which has seen Restarick work on countless commission, most recently including restaurants like Movida and the award winning Hotel Hotel in Canberra.
