Tia Ansell

Tia Ansell — Miles 2022

$4,800

Deconstructing fundamental elements of a painting, Tia Ansell practice calls attention to the origin of the woven substrate and its context within contemporary art. Tia Ansell utalises the loom to explore intricate weaving patterns generated using her idiosyncratic coding system based on urban landscapes. Her weaving-paintings form a structure of intertwining colours with bold compositions of geometries and hardlines, a language of architecture which frames the weaving medium. Tia threads these ideas within the context of Melbourne architecture extrapolating facade compositions into the construction of the woven plane, with architectural patterns and design symbols interrupting the image.

Tia Ansell is a New Zealand born and Melbourne based artist. Tia has a BFA with Honours at the Victorian College of the Arts (2018). Tia has held solo exhibitions at Conners Conners, Melbourne; Lon Gallery, Melbourne; {Suite} Gallery, Wellington and Auckland; Bus Projects, Melbourne; Station Gallery, Melbourne; Caves Gallery, Melbourne; and group exhibitions with Sarah Scout Presents, Melbourne; Station Gallery, Melbourne; Conners Conners, Melbourne; Weasel Gallery, Hamilton, NZ; Block Projects, Melbourne; Stockroom, Kyneton; Home@735, Sydney; Lon Gallery, Melbourne; and Hugo Michell Gallery, Adelaide.
