Tessy M King - Small Yellow Copper Sculpture

Tessy M King

Having completed an Advanced Diploma of Jewellery from NMIT and currently completing a Bachelor of Fine Art (Object Based Practice) from RMIT, Tessy King’s practice works with materials of clay, copper and enamel. Colour and composition are at the forefront of an experience with Tessy’s work, and emotional responses to pigment, and play, are key to her research.

Tessy works often with friends and other makers, exhibiting vignettes saturated in colour and markings of the handmade. Connections are made between objects and conversations are begun between practices that illuminate thought processes and methodologies. By orchestrating these conversations, Tessy is a key driver in Melbourne’s new wave of makers – gestural use of material, method and colour are her tools.

Tessy King’s works for Craft Victoria are organic, hand moulded vessels with undulating, patinated surfaces in jewel colours. They hold flowers or liquids and they are also sculptural objects, their purposes open to the user.
